Ingrid Abitan obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at McGill University, graduating with distinction. She then obtained a Master of Sciences at the University of Montreal in Psychoéducation, a program specializing in working actively with children and teenagers living with adaptational difficulties, their families, and their environments.

Ingrid has worked as a school counselor for over 10 years in several daycare, elementary and high school levels (private and public schools). During her time, she counselled students with emotional, behavioural as well as learning difficulties. Ingrid worked actively not only with the child in need, but with teachers, school direction and parents, since she is a strong believer that all members of a child's immediate environment play an important role.

Ingrid has also worked as a group animator/ presenter providing fun and creative workshops to groups of students, teachers and parents on diverse subjects such as self-esteem building, social skills and bullying, self-regulation, parenting strategies, puberty, alcohol and drug use, sexuality etc.

For the pastseven years, Ingrid has been able to use her wealth of knowledge to help support children, teens and their families in private practice. She provides one on one counselling with the goal of helping the child and their parents overcome and better cope with their challenges.

  • What is a Psychoeducator?

    broken image

Psychoeducators are trained to help people who are struggling with behavioural adjustment problems in various aspects of their lives. Thanks to their university education, psychoeducators are able to work independently. In addition to conducting clinical assessments and developing treatment plans, they also design and run programs tailored to meet their clients’ needs. They are concerned with both prevention and treatment.

Psychoeducators primarily work in the field. They are involved in the everyday lives of the people they support, and their work depends on sharing experiences with them. They assess problems and propose solutions that address the individual needs of the people they help. By being there, they make a difference.

Ingrid Abitan is a registered member of l'Ordre des psychoéducateurs et psychoéducatrices du Québec.
